My name is Anastasia Kulakova, I'm from Novosibirsk, Russia. Three years have passed since my first participation in the Fashion Colorworks contest where my work took the prize at once, and since my work and I were presented to the general public in the August issue of MyLovelyBeads newsletter. After that my fate has made me a wonderful gift - my lovely daughter, which I have long dreamed of.
To be honest, with my extremely active little girl there has been very little time for beading creativity, but it was impossible to give up everything. My hands themselves looked for the threads, needles and treasured bags with beads; since Fashion Colorworks is the main summer holiday for me I always try to take part in it.
Over time, I finally realized that I was more attracted to the design and creation of accessories like purses rather than jewelry, and I almost completely switched to make them though creating handbags takes more time.
As to the beading techniques, I remained faithful to the bead embroidery, but I often add woven elements to my beadworks. I am very pleased that there are a lot of new materials in the stores that make it possible to embody even the most daring imaginations.
When working on accessories, it is very interesting for me to set challenging tasks. For example, I was interested in making the spherical shape of the Armageddon Handbag using only beaded embroidery without any rigid base.
Also I really wanted to make the "fire" from seed beads as realistic as possible, so that it could resemble a live flame. Not the first time, but I succeeded. This handbag still remains one of my favorite beadworks.
A serious test for me was the creation of a backpack in the form of an owl. There was a lot of painstaking embroidery on the opening wings, and "feathers" on the legs of the bird are embroidered with beads 15/0. And although I constantly promise myself not to do a lot of bulk work with such small beads, sometimes I cannot resist. Gimp embroidery was not an easy task too, but my "owl" would not have become so regal without it.
I think that the most difficult is yet to come. What - I do not know yet. Despite a lot of bead contests, Fashion Colorworks remains my most beloved, and I hope to participate in this holiday of color and bead magic next year again.
