My name is Lyubov Tyurina; I live in the city of Moscow, Russia, that is a huge, crowded and noisy city. Maybe that's why since my childhood I feel boundless love for nature and all living things. In my opinion, nature is an endless source of inspiration for any creative work, even as a child I wanted to work somewhere in conservancy area or as a tour guide at the zoo, but... I'm a teacher at the elementary school. I love my job, but would not advise others to choose this profession.
Working with young children is also inspiration: fairy tales, funny poems and stories by A. Barto, S. Marshak, K. Chukovsky, N. Nosov and V. Dragunsky, children's lively pictures, the world of fantasy and imagination.
I like drawing, sewing, writing poetry, collecting and making different models and other things from paper. Apparently, this creative energy accumulated in me over the years and finally led me to the beads; it's a pity that I haven't known about them for a long time! At first, I was fascinated by the toys made using wire and beads. They were simple but very cute little critters; I've woven them by patterns from the books. When I felt I became pretty experienced in this technique I myself started making up and drawing patterns.
I am seriously attracted to beadwork and have got children in my class interested in that, too. So, I founded bead classes at my school and they were attended not only by girls, but also by boys!
Gradually, I felt I "overgrew" my critters, and I switched to the flowers from wire and beads. Then beaded jewelry seemed to me very simple and trivial yet... until I saw amazing beadworks by Svetlana Dubinskaya (Israel), Svetlana Sametis (Riga, Latvia), Julia Turova (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), Uliana Volkhovskaya (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine), Irina Belinskaya (Moscow, Russia), Alla Vizir (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) and other talented artists, and then I fall in love with beads forever!
It was then I felt a desire to create something of my own. I wanted to have my own unique style by which my beadworks could be recognized. You can create any number of items by patterns from books and copy lots of jewelry pieces designed by well known artists but the "soul" and individuality come in only when you "feel" your beadwork, pass ideas through yourself and create it from the very beginning.
My miniature brooches (probably no accident that the word "miniaTURE" is so in tune with my last name - TYURINA), of course, reflect my work with children and love of nature, I convey my feelings and emotions through my beadwork. Embroidering of animals and birds I almost always use a picture or photograph; nice images can catch the special features in the shape and even the true nature of the animal.
"Ideas are flying in the air," we are surrounded by a lot of great things from which we can draw inspiration. My brooches "The Leaf With the Caterpillars," "Fairy Bird," "Swallow's Nest," "Bullfinch," and some others featuring birds as well as brooches with flowers were born during the holidays in the countryside; beadworks like "The Lady With The Lapdog," "The Swan Princes," "Hunter Cat," were made during my bead classes at school. Any moment can provide inspiration for work, the main thing is to be attentive and write and sketch your ideas.
You do not always get what you conceived. For example, how much would I have embroidered my favorite cats, completely different characters always turn out. Among my "secrets" is this: I always start embroidering a brooch with eyes and when they "look at me," the work itself dictates the rules that have to be obeyed.
I'd like to note that not all phases of work give me the same pleasure. Making backings and tiny details is time consuming and requires special diligence, perseverance and patience. But this does not scare me because I get a lot of fun from the finished beadwork and the reactions of people who see it and wear!
I can hardly replicate my bead embroidered critters, I can do that with great difficulty, and such a process is very depressing for me. I do not want to turn my lovely hobby into a routine and I just love things made in a single copy!
And one more thing, I cannot allow myself to work by force and without desire, nothing good comes out of this. Of course, my beadwork with mistakes is far from perfect, but I love my every brooch and I remember the story of its creation. I think that embroidering brooches, an artist can implement a few ideas in a short time.
In addition to beadwork, I'm interested in other types of craftwork: embroidery with ribbons, soutache work, knitting and tatting. Inspired by felt works of Elena Smirnova, I gave a try to felting and I've already made a mouse, a cat and a leopard. I prefer creating 3-D works and I like using in my work a variety of materials: lace, lampwork beads, shells, feathers and other interesting items. I always do what I like and do not think about making money and financial success.
My main work and indecisiveness don't allow me communicate with my fellow beaders, but this year I was fortunate to participate in the 6th international exhibition "Bead Design 2012" in Moscow where my miniature brooches won in the Jewelry Category.
Last year a wonderful bead artist Svetlana Volokh featured me in her "Book of Masters" on the website (www.biser.info). My necklace "Cat" was noted by the diploma "The Best of 2010" for the original design and creative approach on the site (www.art-biser.info). Undoubtedly, such achievements are huge incentive and inspiration for my future creative development.
I like creating "miniature stories" from beads and even to touch them, it is very fertile material. I love to guess people's desire to make them smile and happy, and to bring them good mood. In conclusion I would say that working with the beads do not have borders, everyone can choose what he likes. "What touches our heart should come from our heart."
