My name is Zuzana Hampelova Valesova; I live in the Czech Republic where I was born 24 years ago. I discovered the magic of beadweaving in 2011 and fell in love with beads. In 2013 I saw soutache jewelry pieces and started soutache embroidery.
I like making all kinds of jewelry - from easy beadwoven earrings and rings to difficult and time-consuming necklaces. In this short article I want to introduce you to my creative process on the example of several beadworks I made the last year, I'd love to show you some special pieces which I like the most.
The first one is my Rosaleen Necklace; that piece you could see among Fashion Colorworks 2016 contest winners and here I want to thank jurors and the others -for the 3rd place in the Finished Jewelry category.
At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish this piece until deadline because I haven't had as much time as I needed to not be nervous. I wanted to make this necklace elegant and romantic. I used a lot of different materials: glass, textile, ceramic, acrylic and a little bit was afraid of that fact but now I believe it wasn't bad decision.
For sure, the biggest project I made in 2016 was Eugenia necklace. This soutache and beads piece was designed for the Battle of the BeadSmith and I really loved every hour I spent on it. This old soutache necklace was inspired by another big hobby of mine - genealogy, by my Granny and all vintage things she used to have in her home.
Every moment when I looked at my necklace I felt the smell of old times, so that's it, my Eugenia! The Sophie Necklace was made for contest organized by the club of beaders in my home country - Czech Republic. The theme was about all things associated with the 19th century, so I designed my entry looking like very old and classical jewel with pearls.
I like collections of jewels and sometimes I create several pieces of the same pattern in many color combinations. Those necklaces-wreaths are the example of such approach. I like them, they are simple, gentle, flowery, and romantic; I made them all during summer of 2016.
The Serpentine necklace is like a trip to spring nature. I like beaded flowers and leaves and often use such motives in my jewelry. I know that it's not very original and innovative but I like nature and I think that flowers are immortal in art and as bead pattern, and we will always like them.
And finally, a few words about my latest necklace - Godelieve. It's the symbol of autumn and my return to soutache jewelry. When I look at it I see an angel. To sum up my beading, I'd say that I have two main sources of inspiration: nature and history and I like to combine their motives together to get original piece of jewelry.
